It took us over 14 months to reach this agreement with University of Alaska's bargaining team. We start a new round of bargaining to update the CBA in August of 2024.
Our negotiation teams are member-led, with a UNAC member from each University representing our membership at the table.
Our CBA trumps BOR policy in regards to workplace rules for our bargaining unit. We fight hard during each new round of bargaining to maintain and improve the protections in our CBA. We survey our membership, have 1-1 discussions with people, and hold town-hall meetings to help each negotiation team form their bargaining priorities.
Our negotiation teams work hard to improve the work lives of UA faculty and post doctoral fellows. They depend on visible and vocal support from UNAC members throughout the bargaining process. This includes attending bargaining sessions when possible and - more importantly - participating in all variety of member actions (rallies, signs of support on office doors and as Zoom backgrounds, letters to the editor, op-eds, red shirt Wednesdays, and more). With widespread support from our membership, our bargaining team has incredible power at the table.
