UNAC Sick Leave Bank

The UNAC Sick Leave Bank was transferred from our former sister-union, University of Alaska Federation of Teachers (UAFT), to UNAC in 2018 when the two UA faculty unions merged.

With the ratification of UNAC’s 2021-2024 CBA, the Sick Leave Bank was officially added to our benefits as CBA Article 16.7. The UNAC Sick Leave Bank is for use by UNAC members who run out of accrued UA sick leave while on approved leave via the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Our Sick Leave Bank protects UNAC members from two weeks of unpaid leave, which is required before accessing UA’s Leave Share program.

The UNAC Sick Leave Bank is available for all bargaining unit members who meet Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave requirements and are in need of extended, paid medical leave. The UNAC Sick Leave Bank may be used for personal medical care or to care for a family member.

UNAC bargaining unit members must first be approved for Family Medical Leave (FML) through UA’s AbsenceSoft portal on the UA Benefits page.
